The Marcus girls soccer team has struggled in district this season with a 1-5-2 record, but the Lady Marauders are still in the playoff hunt, and tomorrow night's game against Flower Mound could determine which of the rival schools makes the postseason.
Marcus coach Kevin Albury said Flower Mound will present a significant challenge for his team.
“They are strong, energetic, create opportunities, are very organized as a unit and have a belief that they can succeed,” Albury said.
Marcus lost 1-0 to Coppell on Friday, but it was a pretty solid effort throughout most of the game for the Lady Marauders.
“Coppell capitalized on one breakaway,” Albury said. “It's the story of our year. The ball could have deflected anywhere, but our goalie knocked it against their forward and the ball dribbled into the goal.
“Each team in our district is a tough opponent. There is so little difference between Coppell, who are 8-0 and us at 1-5-2, except little luck , experience, controlling the game and taking chances.”
In order to get into the playoffs, Albury said it will take a couple of things for Marcus.
“We have to beat Flower Mound on Tuesday,” Albury said. “That gives us head to head, but then we have to beat Hebron in the final game when a number of players from both teams are absent due to a club tournament in Las Vegas.”
Marcus will play Flower Mound at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night at Flower Mound.
